REFERRALS, REFERRALS, REFERRALS!
Where do your new patients come from? If you follow my advice on tracking your stats, you should know the answer to this one. My expectation is that a good percentage of your new patients come from referrals. If you apply a little psychology to the matter, then getting tons of referrals is simple and easy! Referrals are the best patients, the easiest to convert, and they are practically FREE!

PERSONAL INJURY
It can either be "Ahhhhh... Personal Injury." Or, "That Damn Personal Injury!" Why would some docs rather not get near personal injury with a ten foot pole, and some would rather have 100% personal injury practices?

SO, WHAT'S YOUR EXIT STRATEGY?
What is an exit strategy? It is exactly what it sounds like - your strategy to get out of the game. Most docs do not think too much about it until right at the end of their careers. I have never started a business without thinking about what happens at the end of the tunnel. Just like when starting patients on corrective care plans, I have always preframed what happens at the end of the corrective portion and we transition to lifetime maintenance care right from the start!

GOALS + BONUSES = GROWTH!
We are now at the half way point and it is time to revisit the goals that
we set in January - That is, if you actually did your homework. My guess is
that those of you who either did not do their goal setting session or who have
no idea what I am talking about are in about the same place they were 6 months
ago.

ARE YOU A GOOD TRACKER?
Are you a good tracker? I have spent a lot of time on horseback in the mountains. I am always on the lookout for animal tracks and have come across turkey, elk, deer, coyote, wolf, and bear tracks (and most of those actual animals). You do not need to be able to be a good animal tracker, but you do need to be able to read the signs of your practice to determine where you are headed. Here are some possible tracks in your practice and what they mean:

you good at closing patients to start care,
actually scheduling patients at the end of your
workshops or spinal screenings, setting up
that lunch with that elusive attorney, business
owner, or company HR person?

YOU CAN CHOOSE!
You have the ability to choose
...how big your practice is
...how many patients you see
...how many hours you work
...whether you want to be poor or wealthy
In order to make the correct choices and set goals, you need to have the
correct roadmap to get you to your destination. A Washington state map does
you no good if you want to get from New York to Florida. Likewise, it is
difficult to get from 50 to 300 patients per week without a plan.

IT IS TIME TO GET WEALTHY!
How wealthy would you be if you had $3 TRILLION dollars like the Federal Government? The answer is "not at all" if you had $4 TRILLION in expenses. Like the government, no matter how much you bring in, you are not even living check to check if your expenses exceed your income. Unfortunately, unlike the Fed, we cannot print our our money.

WHAT IS IN YOUR HEART?
My recommendation to you is that you listen to your heart. Forget about what the patient might be thinking. Lead them! They are coming to you because you are the expert! Distance yourself from your fear of rejection and the possibility that they might say "no." Just give your best recommendation, get their commitment to your best recommendation, and then all you have to do is figure out a way to make it affordable. That is it! I can teach you all the rest, but basically, that is where you need to start. Just follow your heart!

ARE YOU GETTING PAID WHAT YOU ARE WORTH?
How much do you collect per visit? Are you getting paid what you are worth? I do not know how many docs I know who are contracted with all of the HMO's in the land, collecting $10-20/visit hoping to make it up in volume. In my last
office, if I was contracted with ASHP, I would have had to see 288 visits per week just to cover my overhead! ...and that was not even paying myself!

WHAT ARE YOUR PATIENTS AIMING FOR?
What are your patients aiming for? Last week I watched a new show called "Top Shot" on which several marksmen competed with different firearms in order to see who is the best, most accurate marksman under pressure. The commonality was that they all had the same weapons and the same targets.
