WHAT ARE YOUR PATIENTS AIMING FOR?

What are your patients aiming for? Last week I watched a new show called "Top Shot" on which several marksmen competed with different firearms in order to see who is the best, most accurate marksman under pressure. The commonality was that they all had the same weapons and the same targets.

Are you a "Top Shot?" What are you and your patients shooting for? We all have the same tools as chiropractors, so how come some of us are hitting the target at 300 a week and some of us can't even seem to get our weapons loaded? The answer is persistence, training, and having a target. That goes for both you and your patients.

Do your patients just meander through care in your office with no clear goals, or do they have clear precise targets? Some ways to increase your patient compliance, patient visit average, the size of your practice, and collections are:
•   Define Goals in your Report of Findings - What is to be expected during care? ...how many visits? ...how much will it cost? ...how often do they have to come in?
•   Follow a Protocol - Do you have specific protocols for each condition or do you just wing it based on pain relief?
•   Re-Evaluate Regularly - Show the patient measurable changes in their care by doing regular re-evaluations every 10-12 visits.
•   Take X-rays - Nothing will keep a patient on track more then the anticipation of see in black and white their spinal changes on an x-ray.
•   Use Objective Measurements Rather than Subjective Measurements - Pain comes and goes and does not necessarily represent the degree of improvement in their subluxation. Get them off the pain relief model and start using objective measurements like posture, weight balance, range of motion, thermography, and x-rays. Document their improvements and show them where they are now compared to where they started. Remarkably, this will also help you get paid!
•   Track your progress - There is no way to reach your target if you do cannot look back at where you are coming from. Try going into the woods blindfolded and try reaching an "X" on a map without knowing where you are starting from. That is a challenge that even Bear Grylls would have a tough time with!
