Have you ever seen a house that has been completely rebuilt after a fire? Usually it ends up being bigger and better than before. If you could rebuild your house from scratch, what would be different? That is exactly what I want you to do to your practice. Burn it to the ground! ...that is figuratively, not literally. Start imaging that you have a clean slate in your practice. I want you to think of everything - layout, procedures, staff, colors, equipment, carpet, marketing, patient volume, collections, etc. Now let's rebuild it! Rather than it being overwhelming, we can make it fun. Some of the best advice I ever got in my first practice almost 15 years ago was to change 50 things! Let's transform your office into the house of your dreams. Here are some of the 50 things I changed in my office to get past that magical 300 per week mark: • Table height • Table angles • Posters • Office chairs • In office reading materials • New marketing ideas • Phone scripting • New patient welcome board • Office hours • Group reports • Fridays off • Staff • Reception area DVD/Computer slide show • View box placement • Patient of the week area • Kids play toys in the kids area • Credit card authorization forms • Accepted Care Credit • In house electronic billing • In office music • How we welcomed new patients • Website design • Downloadable office forms (also by fax or e-mail) • Patient testimonial binder • "Medical Blunders" binder • The "Drug Jug" • Painted a family tree on the wall • Started having Kids Days • Started attending a weekly networking meeting • Referral cards • Started asking EVERYONE for referrals • Office T-Shirts • Created an open adjusting area • Changed billing software • Started "gifting" patients These are just a few ideas. Take some time this weekend and brainstorm. Just like I used to tell all of my patients about their spines, "If you want to keep having the same results, then just keep doing what your doing and nothing will change."
